"He made her feel uncomfortable and made her feel quite scared. She told me Syed managed her money," Mulvaney said, highlighting the financial control Ahmad exerted over his wife.

Anam's desire for freedom and a new life became evident when she began speaking to a man she met on TikTok. She fell in love and wanted to marry him, a far cry from her unhappy marriage. She even sought help from a mufti to obtain a divorce, but Ahmad, refusing to let her go, asked for mediation.
"She agreed to give him 'one more chance to change', but he never did," the prosecutor stated.

On that fateful day in January, Ahmad's control turned deadly. As Anam filled her water bottle in the kitchen, Ahmad picked up a knife and started stabbing her. She tried to escape, but he chased her, continuing to stab her as she lay helpless. The brutality of the attack was evident in the post-mortem report, which revealed 40 stab wounds to her body.
